Signal Processing R&D

Dan has over 25 years experience as an R&D engineer in the audio industry. His interest in audio can be traced back to his years as a radio station DJ in high school (WJHS), college (WMTU), and graduate school (WREK). Dan received a BSEE from Michigan Technological University, an MSEE degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D., from Loyola University, Chicago. His educational background in digital electronics, signal processing, acoustics, and auditory perception paved the way for a successful career in many facets of the audio industry.

During his career Dan has worked in a variety of areas including digital audio testing, transducer design, echo cancellation and feedback reduction, dynamics processing, hearing test instrumentation, speech processing, surround sound, and binaural recording and playback. Sharing his expertise is an activity Dan relished while teaching statistics and architectural acoustics at Loyola University and Columbia College, Chicago.

His professional efforts and diligent attention to his craft have earned Dan a total of nine patents. Currently, Dan finds himself as staff engineer/scientist at Etymotic Research, Inc. Never one to rest for long, he is also an associate technical editor of the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society. In his spare time, Dan's hobbies include listening to live music and sailing, though not necessarily at the same time.
